Preparation for Supported Internships are aimed specifically at students with Education, Health and Care plans up to the age of 24 who have learning difficulties and/or disabilities. If they are motivated about work and want to progress to paid employment in the future, this course can help them on the path to success. This course will give students the opportunity to develop employability skills in preparation for work. Students will think about the skills and qualities needed for working life and will explore job interests. They will identify and demonstrate (show) how to present positively to employers. Students will develop work skills and complete employability and community units including Health and Safety at Work; Working as Part of a Group; Enterprise and Community Action. The course will be a mix of classroom activity, community visits and work placements. Students will develop employability skills alongside working on Functional Skills Maths and English. Students will take part in a work placement during the year, in an area of interest to them. Students will develop confidence and independence skills that will enable them to progress to the next stage. By the end of the programme, students will have a better understanding of their career options and most will progress to a Supported Internship.
