Public Uniformed Services includes the armed forces, police, fire, prison and paramedic services. This course has been designed to help you build the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to progress successfully into a role in one of these services. What will I study? The course covers four core units and three optional units which are taught through a mix of classroom study, activities and field trips. Some units are based on health and fitness, others on research and group work. You will also have the chance to build on your interpersonal and communication skills and learn how to be an effective team player, an essential skill in any public service. You'll receive an individual learning programme tailored to you that will help you build on your strengths and address your weaknesses, with challenging targets that will stretch you to reach your full potential. Uniform: Similar to the real life services, you'll be asked to wear a uniform of a Gateshead College polo shirt and hooded sweatshirt, which you can buy at your induction. What can I do after the course? You can choose to progress to our Level 3 Course to further your skills and knowledge, step into work or move onto an apprenticeship. One of the biggest employers in our region, these services offer a variety of job roles and progression from entry level through to senior positions. A career in public services is exciting, fast-paced and interesting with salaries start from around £15,000 an can rise to over £50,000

What you need to get on

Qualifications Needed: 2 GCSEs at grade C (4), including English and one other academic subject, or a related Level 1 qualification at Distinction grade. Required experience: We welcome all applicants without any prior experience or knowledge in this area. You will need motivation to achieve and have a passion to gain skills enabling you to progress this as a career in the future.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
