Music is widely respected and recognised as a rigorous A Level, requiring the development of a range of different skills such as analysis, creativity and self-discipline. It complements other subject areas and can be the pathway to study music at university. The best A level musicians: Listen widely to a variety of styles and go to concerts regularly. Practise every day and perform in at least one musical ensemble. Put themselves forward for concerts, grade examinations etc. Enjoy discussing music with others and offering opinions.

What you need to get on

GSCE 6 grade 5 (or C) in any any subjects including Maths and English Language, with min. 5 at grades 6 (or B). 7 to do Maths, Chemistry, Physics. 6 to do Biology or 76 in Combined. Grade 8 in Maths to do Further Math.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
