Developing and applying the musical knowledge, understanding and skills can ensure that students form a personal and meaningful relationship with music. They will be encouraged to engage critically and creatively with a wide range of music and musical contexts, and reflect on how music is used in the expression of personal and collective identities. This allows students to develop particular strengths and interests, encourage lifelong learning and provide access to higher education and university degree courses in music and music- related subjects as well as music-related and other careers. The Subject content is divided into three components: • Appraising Music • Performance • Composition

What you need to get on

It is desirable to have taken music at GCSE level, but this is not essential if you are confident on a musical instrument (including voice) and you are able to read music. A good performing ability is essential and students will be expected to be Grade 5 at the start of the full A-Level course. Grade 3 in music theory is desirable.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
