Edexcel - The A Level Music follows the Edexcel course which leads on from the Edexcel GCSE. In this course, the three main elements (composition, listening and performance) are extended and developed from students prior knowledge and experience. Last year, A level Music Students all achieved on or above their target grades, with 100% achieving A*-B. In the A level Music course, all students perform a short recital on their solo instrument. Students create their own compositions, using music technology software such as soundtrap, or flat.io. Students study a range of works from the Anthology of Music, which aims to broaden students musical knowledge of a large range of genres, periods and styles. Students also sit an exam which tests listening, analytical and essay writing skills. Through these elements, students develop a whole range of transferable skills including perseverance through practicing their instrument, confidence through performance, analytical and essay-writing skills through the listening exam, and creativity through their composition make it a desirable subject for universities. Those studying music at A Level often play a strong role in extra- curricular clubs, allowing them to model their skills to younger pupils.

Grade 6 in GCSE Music and be at Trinity or ABRSM Exam Grade V in one or more instruments
