This is an exciting and challenging course, extending your knowledge in how music is created, performed and appreciated. A selection of pieces from the instrumental, vocal pieces, film music, popular music, fusions and new directions genres will be studied, composed by J.S. Bach, Mozart, Vaughan Williams, Vivaldi, Cara Schumann, Berlioz, Bernard Herrmann, Rachel Portman, Danny Elfman, The Beatles, Courtney Pine, Kate Bush, Debussy, Anoushkar Shankar, Familia Valera Miranda, Cage, Saariaho and Stravinsky. What you will do: • Study 18 set works taken from vocal and instrumental music, music for film, popular music and jazz, fusions and new directions. All between 1600-2000 • Compose 1 piece to a set brief provided by Edexcel or to a free brief related to any of the 18 set works • Perform a recital as a soloist and/or as part of an ensemble • Develop your understanding of theory and harmony. Future prospects: • At the end of A Level Music you could go on to further study either at a university, college or music college • It is useful if you want to work in recording studios or other performance art professions. You could also go on to become a music librarian or music teacher, work in practical music management - orchestral or band.

Grade 5 or above, GCSE Music and grade 5 or above in performing (ABRSM or Trinity examinations)
