What the college says

A level music aims to develop your understanding and experience of a wide range of music. You will be expected to perform, compose and study specific works in great detail. You will be encouraged to engage critically and creatively with a wide range of music and musical contexts and reflect on how music is used in the expression of personal and collective identities. The course will allow you to develop particular strengths and interests, encourage life-long learning and provide access to higher education and university degree courses in music and music-related subjects as well as other careers. Courses in Music range from performing, teaching, music administration and music publishing to music therapy and Music Technology as well as performing and orchestral management.

What you need to get on

Grade 5 or above in GCSE Music and at least Grade 5 standard on your instrument. We expect that students continue to take an active part in music-making; for example, Concert Band, Orchestra, Choir, in School and/or at County level.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
