If you love cars and enjoy fixing things, this could be a great career for you. Motor vehicle technicians repair and service cars, vans, motorbikes, lorries and coaches. They work on all vehicle mechanics and electrics, from engines and exhaust systems to air-conditioning and security. If you love to be around cars, becoming a motor vehicle technician is a dream job. Motor vehicle technicians repair and tune engines to maximum running efficiency, install parts and accessories, and repair dented body panels. You will work in real, practical situations to enable you to develop the skills and experience necessary to perform fitting operations on a modern motor car safely and efficiently. You will study the following units: Developing self and working safely with others in which you will learn how to: -Contribute to good housekeeping in a motor vehicle environment -Establish, maintain and strengthen working relationships -Apply safe working practices -Comply with statutory regulations -Identify and follow accident and emergency procedures Remove and refit chassis components which you will learn how to: -Remove and refit braking, suspension, steering and exhaust components -Remove and refit wheels and tyres and dispose of waste material -Identify components and understand their operation -Prepare and use workshop equipment required to remove and replace components -Follow instructions for using hand tools to remove and replace components -Remove and replace components and dispose

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
