Join our non-auditioning lunchtime choir led by conductor Benedict Collins-Rice. This choir is perfect for singers looking to enhance their musicianship and vocal skills while gaining experience in a mixed choir setting with a positive and friendly atmosphere. Each session begins with vocal warm-ups to train your vocal apparatus, followed by simple musicianship exercises to improve sight-singing. The main focus will be on rehearsing the chosen repertoire for the term which will be 'The Fox That Walked Over Water' - modern secular oratorio celebrating that beautiful but canny creature, the fox with music by Nick Morris, setting a text by Merrily Harpur - the famous cartoonist published in Punch, The Irish Times, The Irish Independent and Irish Tatler. Harper also drew weekly cartoon strips for the Sunday Telegraph and the London Evening Standard where her speciality involved the gentle mockery of city people with a weekend place in the countryside. What you need to get on
You will need to be able to pitch notes. Although sight-reading is not necessary, you will be encouraged to follow the music and the text. If you are new to choral singing or unsure about your voice type (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), the tutor will be happy to provide a short vocal assessment upon request.
