What the college says
Join our non-auditioned lunchtime choir led by conductor Benedict Collins-Rice. This choir is perfect for singers looking to enhance their musicianship and vocal skills while gaining experience in a mixed choir setting within a positive and friendly atmosphere. Each session begins with vocal warm-ups to train your voice, followed by simple musicianship exercises to improve sight-singing. The main focus will be on rehearsing the chosen repertoire for the term, drawn from a range of mostly classical pieces written by well-known and less familiar composers, carefully matched to the range of voices in the choir. For further enquiries or to express interest in joining, please contact us at enquiries@morleycollege. ac. uk where we can connect you with Programme Area Manager for Vocal Studies, the conductor of the choir and/or the choir representative as appropriate. Please note by joining, you commit to regular rehearsal attendance and are expected to purchase your own music copies. Monteverdi: Blessings and Laments This term will focus on the music of Claudio Monteverdi, whose daring fusion of Renaissance polyphony and nascent Baroque drama reshaped the soundscape of early seventeenth-century Italy. As one of music's first truly modern voices, the madrigal became a vessel for raw emotion and operatic grandeur, and he dared to believe that harmony itself could speak its own story.
