This City & Guilds accredited qualification is aimed at learners aged 16+ who are looking to start a career as a vehicle technician in the automotive industry. You will learn the skills and knowledge to carry out routine light vehicle maintenance, replacement of Combustion Engine Units and Components, Engine Mechanical, Lubrication and Cooling System Units and vehicle Fuel, Ignition, Air and Exhaust System Units. Successful learners will be able to progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles or apply for an automotive apprenticeship. Course entry requirements: Minimum of GCSEs grade 3 in English and Maths
What you need to get on
Minimum four grade 3-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 1 course, and English or maths at grade 3.
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
