A technical qualification for students wishing to specialise in the maintenance, repair and fault diagnostics of vehicle systems. This course develops the skills and knowledge gained at Level 2 and includes training in the maintenance and repair of hybrid and electric vehicles. Diagnostic knowledge is established through classroom and workshop based training and practice covering engine systems, chassis systems, transmissions and auxiliary electrical systems. This knowledge and the associated skills are developed in the application and use of a range of modern test equipment. Training covers petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric-powered vehicles. Students will complete a hybrid/electric vehicle qualification as part of their Level 3 programme.

Applicants must possess a Pass grade in City & Guilds or IMI Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair. They must also hold GCSE English and maths qualifications at grades 3 or above.
