It is suitable for care assistants, support workers, healthcare assistants, and anyone entering or working in residential care, memory clinics, NHS services, or community organisations. You do not need previous experience in dementia care to apply. The course is delivered through a mix of face-to-face sessions in Leeds, Bradford, and Wakefield, plus online learning you can access at any time. You will earn your certificate in 12 weeks by completing seven units covering: understanding dementia, person-centred approaches, communication and interaction, supporting positive activity and occupation, equality and inclusion, rights and choice, and medication and wellbeing. Assessment is entirely portfolio-based with no written exams. If you meet the eligibility criteria, the course is funded for you. To be eligible you must live in the West Yorkshire Combined Authority area, be aged 19 or over, have the right to work and study in the UK, and meet one of the following: be unemployed and in receipt of qualifying benefits, be economically inactive, or be employed and earning below the relevant income threshold.
