You will be suitable for this course if you enjoy performing, composing and developing your understanding of different genres of music through careful analysis and discussion. You need to be a confident performer, minimum grade 5 standard, with a view to improving to grade 7 by the end of Year 13, have a good understanding of western musical notation, and have taken GCSE Music or have gained grade 5 theory. You will learn about six Areas of Study with three sets of music in each: Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Music for Film, Popular Music and Jazz, Fusions and New Directions. Music complements a range of A-Level subjects such as Maths, Physics, English and Biology. Music will also complement Music Technology particularly well. Studying Music can give you a great mix of social, technical, and creative business skills.

What you need to get on

A minimum of 5 subjects at Grade 4 or above, including at least one of GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics. A minimum of a grade 5 in a GCSE Music qualification Achieved a minimum of a grade 5 a Music Instrumental grading

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
