What the college says
English Language is the study of the spoken and written word and explores how writers use language to fulfil purposes, target specific audiences, reveal attitudes and evoke emotions. The course is highly technical and we will equip you with the tools and vocabulary to deconstruct texts in detail, looking specifically at how words and grammatical structures can affect meaning. The course is also highly creative and allows you to develop your original writing skills, providing the opportunity for you to write both literary and non-literary pieces.
What you need to get on
Five passes in GCSE at grade 4 or above. One of the five passes will include English at grade 5/6 or higher.
How you are assessed
Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
What this level means
The A-level-equivalent step, and what universities and employers ask for.
