Bricklayers work on both new build and renovation schemes, on projects ranging from house extensions to city centre commercial development. This course aims to provide a basic knowledge of bricklaying and to develop and practise the skills for employment and a career in this craft area. This qualification has been developed with employers and it fully aligns to the occupational standard. This provides future employers with reliable evidence of knowledge skills and behaviours which form the minimum requirements for entry into the bricklaying occupation. This is an ideal course for those who are looking to learn on a full-time basis and have identified that they want to enter the construction industry and have a career as a bricklayer. Bricklaying study programmes start with a Level 1 Certificate or Level 1 Diploma. Learners progress from this to the Level 2 programme and progression is available from September 2026 to to the Level 3 Advanced occupational diploma.. Alternatively with an employer students can transfer to an apprenticeship programme in year.. A bricklaying labourer could earn up to £17,000 per year and a qualified bricklayer can earn over £40,000. Qualified experienced bricklayers also have the potential to set up their own company. These study programmes support those looking to gain employment in an industry that is working towards Net Zero, they include learning that relates to the following UN Sustainable Development Goals. What you need to get on

4 GCSEs at Grade 9-4. All learners will be required to complete a BKSB assessment.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
