What the college says
This is a full-time study programme where you will build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your ability to plan, deliver and evaluate coaching and activity sessions. This course is for learners who want to start a career in sport and physical activity. It is an ideal qualification for learners intending to progress directly to employment in sport and activity leadership, progress onto Level 3 Sport or go on to an apprenticeship. Modules you will complete include: Anatomy and Physiology-how the body works and why it responds to physical activity the way it does, Physical fitness and Injuries- why it is important as sports professionals to understand the importance of fitness and how to prevent and also treat injuries that may occur, Healthy Exercise and Nutrition-why it is important to put the correct fuel in the body in order to perform and to understand the suitability of exercise for different groups of people, as well as Planning, Delivering and Evaluating sports coaching, activity sessions and sports events. You will learn through hands-on practical scenarios, and in the real world of sport and exercise. You will be encouraged to gain coaching experience across a range of sports and undertake work experience within the Sport sector. You will wear a college Sports kit for all lessons and assessments.
What you need to get on
You are required to have 4 GCSEs at grade 9-3 (A* - D) including Maths or English and will also be required to undertake an interview and assessment. Students will be expected to be enthusiastic about embarking on a career in the sports sector and are required to complete a DBS check at the start of the academic year.
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
