This fast-paced course will help you build your confidence and skills whilst preparing you for entry onto a UAL (University of the Arts London) Level 3 Extended Diploma, specialist apprenticeships or employment. You will explore a diverse range of specialisms within fashion, textiles and surface design, including: Observational drawing Contextual studies General art and 2D / 3D / 4D design using a wide range of different media and materials Digital design and presentation using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator General print making Printed textiles Surface pattern Sewing and construction Fashion illustration Garment design Project work will enable you to develop your practical and theoretical skills, encouraging you to study the work of leading fashion designers, textile designers and other creative practitioners to support the development of your own ideas and work. You will be guided and supported throughout the course which is based on internally set and assessed projects. All project work includes opportunities to develop literacy and numeracy skills.

What you need to get on

4 GCSEs Grade 3 incl. Art & portfolio showing ability to draw/develop ideas. This can include GCSE Art & work from home (if not taking GCSE Art - 4 GCSEs at 3 plus a portfolio as above). The level of course will be based on the quality of artwork.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
