If you are aged 16-18 and focused on a career working with children and want to achieve a qualification which will enable you to seek employment in the early years sector, then this is the course for you. A comprehensive range of knowledge and skills will be developed on this course to help you reach your goal of working within the childcare sector. This qualification will prepare you to work with children aged 0-5 years through practical work experience in a nursery setting for part of the week and to gain knowledge and understanding of working with children up to 7 years of age by completing activities in the classroom and submitting a range of assignments.

What you need to get on

A genuine interest in a career working with children. You will need at least 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above including 3 in both English and Maths. Evidence of work experience with children is desirable.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
