What the college says

Criminology is the scientific study of crime and criminals. It is a multi-disciplinary approach that draws together methods and perspectives from a range of social sciences, including sociology and psychology. While this course is designed primarily for students who are required to re-sit their GCSE Maths and English qualifications, students on this course will look at the fundamentals of criminology, law, sociology and psychology. This will include the concepts, theories and perspectives which characterise criminology including key issues relating to defining crime and deviance, different explanations of crime, understanding key aspects of the criminal justice system and the factors that can influence the way in which individuals experience the criminal justice system. You need to be motivated, reliable and focused, be very interested in people, society and crime and be able to work under pressure, both individually and as a team member and you must have a genuine interest in the subject.
