What the college says

Under the Private Security Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must hold a recognised qualification before applying for a licence. Individuals working in the private security industry must undergo a structured training programme, resulting in one of the recognised security qualifications. Applicants who do not hold a qualification endorsed by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) may have their licence application refused. Door supervisors are often the first point of contact between many businesses and members of the public. It is important therefore that they are effectively trained and meet legal requirements in what can be a challenging environment.

What you need to get on

Learners must be aged 18 or over. Learners will need to show that they hold a current and valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate . Learners should, as a minimum, have language skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening equivalent to Level 1. Learners must check that any criminal record they may have does not bar them from obtaining an SIA licence.

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
