This course is designed for students with a genuine passion for Art and Design who are keen to develop their creativity into future opportunities. It offers the chance to refine practical skills, build confidence, and explore different artistic disciplines while working towards a recognised qualification. If you are motivated to expand your artistic abilities and committed to completing the course, this programme will support you in achieving a UAL Level 2 Award & Diploma in Art and Design. Along the way, you will be encouraged to experiment, challenge yourself, and produce work that demonstrates both technical ability and personal expression. Completing this qualification places you on a clear progression route towards higher-level study [Level 3] , apprenticeships, or entry-level employment within the creative industries. What you need to get on
You will need a minimum of four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including Art, plus a portfolio demonstrating your ability to draw and develop ideas. Your portfolio may include work produced at school (such as GCSE Art) as well as personal projects completed at home.If you have not studied GCSE Art, you can still apply with four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, provided you can present a portfolio that shows your creativity, technical ability, and potential for development.
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
