This programme has been designed to give you the essential skills and knowledge you need to successfully start your career within the Carpentry & Joinery industry. With teaching and instruction from specialist staff you will gain knowledge and learn a wide variety of practical skills in the area of: Maintaining and using Carpentry & Joinery hand tools Preparing and safely operating portable power tools Producing woodworking joints Using appropriate information to set out timber products Producing timber products to industry standards Health and safety is of paramount importance in all areas of the construction industry, and this will be reinforced throughout the course. Vocational core skills of English and Maths will be embedding in the programme along with specialist delivery to enable learners to reach GCSE grade 4 or equivalent standards to meet industry requirements. In addition to the specialist skills described above, we will help you to develop a range of wider skills that will make you into a well-rounded professional who will be highly valued by employers and universities. During tutorials we will develop your Employability skills, Personal Learning, Social and Community skills, together with your Specialist skills and qualification will give you a distinct advantage when it is time for you to progress to employment or further and higher education. To access this course you will need GCSEs at grade 2 or above in Maths and English, general education and a keen interest in Carpentry & Joinery.
