For experienced jazz players (of any suitable instrument) who wish to develop their jazz improvisation skills to an advanced level. Coursework includes melodic soloing, group accompaniment, jazz 'standards' and a wide variety of chord sequences. Technical exercises include: advanced scales and arpeggios: jazz phrasing: ornaments: cadences: creating structure for solos: diatonic, chromatic, modal and diminished harmony. Creative work will be focused on developing jazz language, building repertoire, and performing as part of a band.
What you need to get on
A reasonable command of your instrument, a basic understanding of chord symbols and harmony, some degree of ability in improvising, some reading skills.
