Build on previous knowledge, learning and experience with jazz material to begin finding your own voice and style inside of the jazz idiom. This course focuses on diving in to some of the more challenging repertoire of jazz standards, furthering our understanding of jazz improvisation in be-bop and developing our own arrangements of jazz standards. Each term in this class we have a slightly different "focus" - this term we will be centring Modal improvising and learning about modes throughout the course.

What you need to get on

Previous experience with jazz singing - students should be familiar with jazz standard repertoire and already have a number of songs learnt to performance standard. Knowledge and understanding of the Blues scale and the 12 bar blues Have transcribed a solo before (listened to and learnt a solo from a recording) Some previous experience improvising with other musicians Some proficiency in reading chord charts/lead sheets
