As modern cars become ever more complex, the modern automotive technician needs a wide range of skills to be able to maintain and repair them. This one year course is an ideal starting point if you wish to pursue a career in vehicle maintenance and repair. As well as covering the technology involved in the engine, transmission and chassis of the motor vehicle, you will put the theory you learn into practice in our Automotive Engineering workshop. It is a learning programme which involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of the following: Carrying out basic routine maintenance. Operating principles of light vehicle engines, tyres, brakes, steering and suspension systems Introduction to vehicle electrical and electronic systems- How to carry out basic checks Component knowledge and maintenance of light vehicle transmission systems Health and safety is of paramount importance in all areas of the automotive industry, and this will be reinforced throughout the course. Whilst at the college you will be encouraged to take part in competitions, participate in the college enrichment programmes and develop your entrepreneurial skills through charitable and community projects which run throughout the year and are led by students.

What you need to get on

2 GCSEs at grade 2 or better, in Maths and English, general education and a keen interest in your chosen subject area.

Entry level and Level 1 study, English and maths retakes, and supported programmes.
