What will I study? The course will give you the technical skills needed by today’s motor vehicle repair industry, including diagnosis and rectification procedures for major accident damage and paint rectification. It provides the essential knowledge that you'll need to work as a body repairer or paint refinisher working on a wide range of vehicles in all types of garages, dealerships and specialist body repair shops. You'll study theory and practical aspects of: Body Units Removing and Replacing Body Panels Repairing Body Panels Rectifying Vehicle Misalignment MIG Brazing Operations Paintless Dent Removal Paint Units Working with Plastic Materials and Components Establishing Paint Defects Applying Topcoats and Completing Refinishing Operations Vehicle Colour Matching SMART Paint Repair In addition you'll also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of job roles in the automotive environment health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage. As part of your study programme you will be given the opportunity to take up a work experience placement in the automotive industry, working with local employers to further enhance your employability skills and knowledge. What you need to get on
How will I be assessed? You will be assessed throughout the programme by use of practical assessments within our workshops and also via assessments. You will also need to build a portfolio of evidence that will be submitted to the awarding body at the end of the programme. How will I be taught? You will be taught in our state of the art workshops working on the latest vehicles supported by tutors with years of industrial experience. The majority of this programme will be in the workshops working on vehicles and within the body and paintshops. Qualifications needed Level 2 qualification in Body Repair and Paint Refinishing Required experience You should have some basic experience but you don't need a work placement to attend this training.
How you are assessed
Two-year technical qualification with a 45-day industry placement. Equivalent to three A levels.
