If you would like a practical job working with plants, this course is ideal for you. Based at our Wigfield Farm campus, you will be involved in plant production, selling plants in garden centres or tending to plants in parks and gardens.You will cover various interesting topics in horticulture combining practical work with underpinning knowledge. •Preparing ground for sowing and planting •Preparing and planting container grown subjects, bulbs and hanging baskets •Cultivating land by single digging and forking •Caring for a planted area •Grass and turf care •Tree, weed and shrub identification •Assessing soil texture and condition On completion of this programme, you may wish to progress on to Practical Horticulture Level 2. Alternatively, you may wish to seek employment in the horticulture industry.•There are no formal entry requirements for this study programme •Good personal reference demonstrating acceptable level of attendance and commitment to hard work You will achieve Horticulture Diploma Level 1 You could work for local authorities, private companies or estates, the Royal Parks, botanical gardens, theme parks and conservation charities like the National Trust. Your day-to-day tasks may include: raising plants from seeds or cuttings digging, planting and weeding flower beds and borders pruning shrubs and trees checking the health of plants and controlling pests using machinery like lawn mowers and hedge trimmers looking after the appearance of plants and the surroundin
