What the college says

History is a very well respected academic area of study, which trains students to analyse and critically evaluate key issues. It also prepares students to form reasoned judgements supported by evidence. A-Level History is considered valuable as a background for a variety of university courses, including Medicine and Law, because of its analytical approach and the understanding of people and their motivations which it fosters. The Russell Group universities particularly value history for entry on to any undergraduate course. In Year 12 students study: Revolutions in early modern and modern Europe. This involves a study of British history from 1625 –1701 and Russian history from 1900-1924. In Year 13 students study units on: Witchcraft in early modern Europe and America 1580-1750 or The Experience of Warfare– Napoleonic Wars, Crimean War, Boer War and World War One. Students also complete an independent piece of coursework in the form of an extended essay. They are able to choose a topic of interest to them within the specification.

What you need to get on

5 grade 4’s minimum, including grade 5 in History and English.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
