History at A Level is a well-respected discipline that encourages students to think, argue, discuss communicate and challenge. It combines with many other subjects and can provide a contrast with others. A Level History is accepted by Higher Education institutions to be a challenging discipline and is favourably looked upon. History acts as a platform for careers in law, politics, civil service, the media, management, and education among many others. For the coursework aspect of History A Level (20%), students complete an independent enquiry into their own chosen area of study from a selection of their Paper One topics. They produce a 3,000-4,000 word essay.

What you need to get on

Grade 5-9 in Maths and English plus three other GCSE subjects at grade 5 or above AND History Grade 6 at GCSE.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
