This course will equip you with practical skills for a range of salon activities, from conducting client consultations to cutting and dressing hair. You will learn how different shampoos and conditioners affect the hair and scalp, and will explore a variety of colouring and lightening products and techniques.You will learn how to work in accordance with health and safety procedures to ensure the well-being of your clients, your colleagues, and yourself. As well as working in the college's own hairdressing salon, you will also have the opportunity to do a period of work experience. You will also work on improving your English and Maths skills.

You will need:Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English Language and Maths or equivalent Level 1 qualificationA reference from your previous school/collegeAll applicants must have an interview and assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
