Thinking about a career in hairdressing but not sure where to start? The Level 1 Diploma in an Introduction to the Hairdressing Sector at South Devon College is the perfect first step. Designed for adult learners, this course gives you a hands-on introduction to the hair industry while building your confidence and skills. You’ll complete 10 units, each combining practical training with theory, to give you a solid foundation in key salon techniques. You’ll learn how to shampoo and condition hair, style both women’s and men’s hair, create hair-up looks for special occasions, and explore setting, plaiting, consultation, health and safety, and reception duties. You’ll also get an early introduction to colouring and cutting — ideal preparation for progressing on to the Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing. As part of your experience, you’ll take part in inspiring workshops, hear from guest speakers, and have the chance to attend exhibitions and industry events. What you'll learn: Shampooing and conditioning techniques Styling women’s and men’s hair Hair-up styles for all occasions Plaiting and setting hair Health and safety in the salon Reception and client consultation skills Introductory cutting and colouring.
