at Dane Court Grammar School, Broadstairs · school or sixth form
What the college says
This two year course is designed for students to develop proficient skills in music through the disciplines of listening, creating/composing and performing alongside critical analysis and thinking. Students will explore musical ideas that are both familiar and unfamiliar and will understand musical links between different cultures. IB Music fits beautifully with the IB learner?s profile. Students at Dane Court intending to undertake this course must achieve a minimum of a grade B at GCSE level. Students will also be expected to continue their independent instrument studies with a private teacher of their choice. Solo performance standards at HL, and if opted for at SL, are expected to be at Grade?s 6 ? 8. At SL studying composition and similarities in cultures through Music Technology is encouraged and for students who are passionate about music technology on the SL course in particular this can cover 70% of the SL course. The Music IB course is seen as a preparation for students to progress from Dane Court to one of the many universities and music colleges, which prepare students for a musical career in one of its many pathways or to make students understand music at a much higher level.
