The AS Level is a one year course that consists of two units. Students will be introduced to a variety of graphics media and techniques and then experiment and explore the use of these. We use a variety of different materials and techniques to create typography and images - these include drawing paint print stencils calligraphy photography and using digital software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Students will look at areas of graphic design used in everyday society such as advertising packaging typography illustration animation logos and be expected to respond to a brief or respond to a concept or idea. As in all areas of Art and Design students will need to research and refer to historical and contemporary developments and different styles and genres in their chosen area of Graphic Design. In the second year the project units will build on the skills knowledge and understanding developed at AS level and will allow for a greater depth of study and experience with opportunity to develop more individual interests. Completing the second year will lead to a full Avanced Level qualification. Hours of lessons per week: 4.3 Indicative Group Size: 20

What you need to get on

Students who have enjoyed Art & Design or Graphics at school will also enjoy this course. You should have six GCSEs grade C or above to include Art & Design Graphic Design or another creative GCSE subject as well as English Language. Previous experience in portfolio form will be considered from more mature students
