What the college says
A level Geography is an exciting and challenging 2 year course. Students should have confidence in the interpretation and analysis of numerical and graphical data. They should have the ability to consider evidence from a critical perspective and write fluently about their conclusions. Students should have an enquiring mind with an active interest in contemporary events, they should enjoy research and be thoughtful of alternate perspectives. Students will learn about topics including but not limited to: water and carbon cycles; coastal systems and landscapes; hazards; global systems and global governance and contemporary urban environments. Students will also complete a geographical fieldwork investigation which is an investigation project which included data collection and active field research. Geography opens up careers such as: cartographer; climatologist; geomorphologist; hydrologist; meteorologist; surveyor; town planner.
What you need to get on
Hold a minimum of five 9-4 GCSE qualifications and grade 6 in GCSE Geography. If not studied at GCSE, at least a Grade 6 in one Humanities subject, and at least a Grade 6 in Double Science, and a Grade 6 in English Literature or English Language .
How you are assessed
Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
