Geography
at Longcroft School and Sixth Form College, Beverley · sixth form college
What the college says
This course covers a wide range of geographical topics. The subject is divided into Physical and Human themes in both AS and A2, although the interaction between humans and their environment is addressed in all topics. The wide range of topics makes for an interesting and varied course, with some of the themes reflecting important issues facing humans today - problems of World population growth, climate change and natural hazards. Geography lends itself to enquiry based learning and you should expect to use a variety of information sources during your course, e.g. the Internet, videos, textbooks and visits as well as experience a variety of lesson activities such as discussions, group presentations and report writing. You will also be able to use a new online resource which supports the textbooks specifically written for this syllabus. Fieldwork also is an important part of this course. There is a residential fieldtrip in Year 12 and in the past there have been visits to the London Docklands, local visits and periodically trips to Europe such as Sorrento, Italy.
