What the college says

This is an intensive, fast-paced accredited course which prepares students for GCSE(9-1) Mathematics Higher Tier exam. The course runs twice a week for 2 hours per session and covers all the topics of the new GCSE(9-1) Maths Higher curriculum in one academic year. The new GCSE maths syllabus has a focus on problem solving and mathematical thinking. You will learn particular mathematical techniques, with an emphasis on solving real world problems. This course is only open to students who have not previously gained an A-C / 4-5 grade in GCSE Maths. Not all students who apply are offered a place. However, where possible, students are advised of alternative courses within the maths department.

All new students can come in to take an initial assessment and interviewed to check their current skills and suitability for this course.

How you are assessed

Entry level and Level 1 study, English and maths retakes, and supported programmes.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
