What the college says
The course will provide you with the opportunity to develop your English skills. There are no set texts for the GCSE Language course. The specification offers a skills-based approach to the study of English and to develop reading and writing skills. Students will read and analyse a range of texts covering 19th, 20th and 21st century time periods and will respond to unseen texts in the GCSE exams. Students will also develop their writing, aiming to be clear, coherent and accurate and use a range of challenging vocabulary and sentence structures. This course is tutor led. The topics you are likely to study include: •Personal writing •Literary texts and non-literary texts covering 19th, 20th and 21st century time periods •Argumentative, descriptive and persuasive Writing •Developing your own spoken language
What you need to get on
You will need to complete a literacy assessment before enrolling onto this course. Applicants will meet with subject teachers at the literacy assessment. The assessment results decide the outcome of the application and teachers will advise accordingly. Students with previous results of D grade GCSE or Functional Skills pass at Level 1 or Level 2, gained within the last four years, should bring evidence of their qualification with them.
