What the college says

The GCSE English course runs from September to early June. We offer GCSE English at either St Albans or Welwyn Garden City. We offer classes in the morning or in the evening.They are 2.5 hours long. You can choose which campus and which time is best for you. The course covers: reading fictional and non-fictional texts, writing creatively or to present a viewpoint, exploring how writers use language techniques to interest readers, speaking and listening in a formal context and using grammar and punctuation correctly.

What you need to get on

We will give you an online assessment and interview to help decide which course is right for you. You may also be asked to complete a short piece of free writing. If you are not at GCSE level yet you can study Skills for Life programmes, which are nationally recognised qualifications and can be a stepping stone to GCSEs. You will be expected to attend all sessions and have 95% attendance or above.

Entry level and Level 1 study, English and maths retakes, and supported programmes.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
