Psychology is the science of behaviour and experience. It is an expanding and challenging subject in the post 16 education sector. Universities increasingly see it as a valuable subject in both its own right and as a supporting subject. The school follows the AQA Specification. Starting from September 2015, the course will be linear. All exams will be sat at the end of the second year. The following topics will be taught over the two years: Social influence Memory Attachment Psychopathology Approaches in Psychology Biopsychology Research methods Issues and debates in psychology Relationships Schizophrenia Aggression At the end of the two years, students will sit three, two hour papers. These are worth 33.3% of the A-level mark each. Each paper will be 96 marks and consist of multiple choice, short answer and extended writing questions. Learning is based on classroom tuition and guidance, group discussion and individual work assignments. Students will be set regular homework and common assessment tests at the end of each topic. There is a dedicated textbook and students are encouraged to purchase other textbooks. Students are expected to use the library, moodle, websites and the twitter feed to expand their knowledge. A considerable amount of self-study is required to achieve a high grade. Psychology is a very interesting and wide ranging subject, which is becoming very popular. What you need to get on

Minimum seven passes at grades 5-9, including at least grades 6 in English and Mathematics. In order to study a subject at A-level a student must have achieved at least a grade 7 at GCSE in that subject In order to study further Mathematics, a student must have achieved at least a grade 8 in Mathematics at GCSE level
