The Physics department at Aston is proud to provide a popular and well-resourced course which provides a thorough preparation for entry into many fields. Physics at A level is essential for many degree courses, such as those in engineering, and valuable preparation for others, such as medicine and architecture. The skills gained through studying physics are both valued by universities and widely transferable to a range of degrees and professions. The department has three full time teaching staff, all of whom are physics specialists, as well as a specialist technician, and lessons are taught across three purpose-built laboratories serviced by a prep room. All students are provided with an electronic copy of the course text book (that includes a number of additional electronic resources) and this is supplemented by an extensive range of bespoke resources for use in class. The department follows the AQA 'Physics A' specification which includes topics such as particle physics, quantum phenomena, waves & oscillations, gravitational & electric fields, classical mechanics, thermal physics, nuclear physics and special relativity. There is an optional module studied during Year 13, the focus of which is chosen based upon both the interests and strengths of the particular cohort.
