What the college says
AS Level Music is mainly centred on an academic study of classical music. Students wishing to take AS Level music should be approximately grade 5 in theory and be able to perform to a similar level at the start of the course. The syllabus does not have to follow on from GCSE music, so it is open to candidates who have not studied music at Key Stage 4. The course divides into 3 components.
What you need to get on
6 GCSE/BTEC passes at Level 4 or above. It is desirable to achieve a Level 5 or above in this subject at GCSE (or a related subject). Ideally you should be of a Grade 5 equivalent standard on your chosen instrument and music theory.
How you are assessed
Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
