Students will develop their passion for Literature, becoming critical thinkers by exploring texts through the lenses of Comedy and Crime. They will consider the many varied nuances of these genres. Students will develop skills of interpretation, evaluation and debate around texts. These skills are very much transferable to other subjects and valued in other disciplines and careers. Students will become competent in essay writing and develop empathy with characters and situations that can be transferred to real life situations. English Literature overlaps a range of other subjects, including History, Religious Studies, Politics, and Sociology in terms of content and skills. Obvious links in terms of careers would be Acting, Writing, Publishing or Law. Many disciplines, such as Medicine, value English Literature due to the critical and evaluative skills it fosters.

What you need to get on

A minimum Attainment 8 score of 60. A grade 6 in GCSE English Language and Maths. A grade 6 in the subject you wish to study (or two grade 6s if you wish to study a science and took Combined Science at GCSE).
