The Biology AS Level aims to introduce students to a wide variety of topics and gives them an understanding of how organisms function from the molecular to system level, and also how they interact with the world around them. Biology is directly relevant to a wide range of careers and biologists work in a variety of roles to try and solve some of the biggest challenges currently faced by people. These include fighting infectious diseases, using DNA technologies to reduce the impact of inherited disorders and protecting the environment. Biology is especially useful for those students who wish to study Science at post 16 level, including prospective medical and veterinary science students. The analysis and evaluative skills developed during the course can be applied to any discipline.

What you need to get on

A minimum Attainment 8 score of 60. A grade 6 in GCSE English Language and Maths. A grade 6 in the subject you wish to study (or two grade 6s if you wish to study a science and took Combined Science at GCSE). Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
