What the college says

Why choose Politics? It has been a momentous year in politics, from Brexit to Donald Trump’s unexpected victory in the US presidential election to the internal power battle in the Labour Party. Politics affects everything we do in life; the Politics course at A-Level takes a look at the major functions of government and politics in Britain and beyond. The political aspect covers the major components of the democratic process; parties, pressure groups and elections. Students will develop their critical thinking skills and enhance their ability to interpret, evaluate and comment on the nature of politics. They will acquire knowledge of the structures of authority and power within the political system of the United Kingdom and beyond and will be encouraged to think and debate more widely about how other political systems may differ. Students can progress to study Politics at university. From there you might become a researcher, join local or national government or even start on the path to become a future Prime Minister! But there are other job options too, such as Journalism, Media, teaching or work in the legal profession. How the Course is Examined - This course will be assessed with a written examination for each of the 3 components.
