Studying Law gives students an understanding of the role of Law in today's society and raises their awareness of the rights and responsibilities of individuals. A Level in Law fosters students’ interest in law and helps them develop knowledge and skills relevant to further study of law and other subjects. Students will develop their knowledge of the law in England, and the interaction between law, morals, justice and society. It works well in combination with A Level Politics to compliment an understanding of the way in which law is made and the way in which the judiciary operates in England. There are 4 topics of study. Students will study: the legal system and the nature of law; criminal law; the law of tort; and the law in relation to Human Rights. Students will learn to apply their legal knowledge in these areas to scenario-based situations. By learning about legal rules and how and why they apply to real life, students also develop their analytical ability, decision making, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. All these skills are highly sought after by higher education and employers.

What you need to get on

Students are expected to have achieved a minimum of a grade 6 in History or English to study A Level Law.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
