GCE A Level in Law
at Langley Park School For Girls, Beckenham · school or sixth form
What the college says
The law helps to define a society’s values and also provides a means to solve problems and disputes without resort to violence. Knowledge of the law can give people more control over their lives and more confidence in their dealings with others. People should be aware of their rights under the law and, equally, of their legal duty to respect the rights of others. On the course you will study: - The English legal system: the different types of law, people in the law, legal institutions and legal careers and how to defend a prosecution or how to resolve a civil dispute. - Crime: fatal (murder and manslaughter) and non-fatal offences (common assault, actual bodily harm, wounding, grievous bodily harm), theft and robbery and defences that may be argued. - Civil law: negligence, nuisance, occupiers’ liability and contract law. You will learn about your rights as a consumer.
