This course is for students who want to continue studying Latin after GCSE. You'll need a keen interest in the literature, history and culture of the ancient world and enjoy learning languages. If you plan to study Classics at university, it can be an advantage to have studied Latin at A level (though some universities will teach it from scratch). Studying Latin will provide benefits for other A level subjects too, particularly Romance based modern foreign languages, English, history and even biology and economics. It will develop your knowledge of English vocabulary, the skills of analytical thought and logical problem solving all of which are useful in a diverse range of careers.

What you need to get on

8 GCSEs (or DfE recognised equivalent) grades 9-5 or A* - B, two of which must be English Language and Mathematics. BTEC Level 2 at Distinction*, Distinction or Merit will be accepted GCSE short courses cannot be accepted. At least a 6 or grade B at GCSE in the subjects to be studied at AS/A-level, apart from Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics which requires a 7 or grade A at GCSE.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
