Success in A Level History requires enthusiasm, intellectual ability and hard work. You are expected to think for yourself in class discussion as well as on paper. History at A Level is essentially analytical. You will have to write essays which require reading about, making notes on, thinking about and making sense of historical problems. You will also learn how to read historical documents and practise interpreting them. You should emerge from A Level History with a greater understanding of human behaviour and of how our society has been shaped by the past.

What you need to get on

Grade 6 or above in GCSE History If you did not study GCSE History you need a Grade 7 or above in GCSE English.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
