A Level Film Studies is a vibrant course of study that challenges and inspires students with critical thinking and practical skills that teach the foundations of film language whilst having the opportunity to engage with production technology in order to create original short films. Students who are able to build an argument, sustain a line of reasoning and deconstruct the micro (Film Form - cinematography, mise-en-scene, editing, sound, lighting, performance / Meaning and Response) and macro (Aesthetics, Representation, Specialist Study Areas, Context) features of a film, thrive in this course. We celebrate a students journey at building their Film and Media cultural capital beyond set texts in the syllabus and give an eclectic range of set texts across the history of cinema as a catalyst for extended study.

What you need to get on

Grade 6 or above in a Humanities subject (English Language, English Literature, Media Studies, Film Studies, History, Religious Studies, Sociology).

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
